Dear Vancouver,
You are one of the most surreal places I have ever been to: with your striking blue seas, beautiful mountains, a little flavour of orange and amber in crispy autumn, sprinkle of colours in the spring, grey in the winter, and joyfully green in the summer. Little did I know, though your temperamental seasons, I learnt that life is just a series of those.
You taught me how to smile, even through the rains, snow and storms, forcing me to be my own sunshine when there was none outside for about a week.
You taught me to appreciate sunshine, and to know that one should not take anything for granted- from bread on your table, to a small grocery store job, to friendships and loved ones.
Through your rainy days, you taught me to believe that not everything goes the way we plan, and sometimes there’s a good reason for that. And even if not, there lies an opportunity in every obstacle. Every cloud has a silver lining, after all
Through your 500 mood swings, you not only taught me to carry an umbrella on a gorgeous sunny day, but also that matter what your current state is, you always have to be prepared for a change and embrace it when it comes.
But most of all, you taught me that no matter what happens, one has to learn to find their own joy and embrace the present with the hope that the sky will clear. But in the meantime, you can always sip a cup of coffee while appreciating the rain. 🙂
Love,
Just another traveller here.

October 1984 had first set foot on Vancouver; it was a cold, damp rainy evening. the ore berth was all sorts of mushy color. The grand Lincoln cab rode us to the city and it was love at first sight.
The gastown steam clock was enchanting and remains etched in the memory.
